2. Ideas for Going Rainbow at Work

Usually the simplest ideas are the most effective, especially if this is your first time hosting an activity at work or with your team.

Think about what already works well in your workplace or office, and what's within your capacity – then add some rainbow flare. Remember, while IDAHOBIT is held every year on May 17, you can host your activity anytime during the the week of IDAHOBIT – or even anytime in May.

These ideas have worked great for IDAHOBIT champions in the past:

Morning Tea

It's a classic workplace activity for a reason! Hang some IDAHOBIT posters and gather the office for a rainbow-themed morning tea.

Lunch n' Learn

Lunch n' learn events are gaining popularity. Invite an internal speake, your pride group, or even a Minus18 guest speaker to inspire and educate your group for IDAHOBIT.

Rainbow Digital Meeting

Working remotely, or have a hybrid working model? Add some rainbows – or even an LGBTQIA+ educational video or two – to your digital meeting.

Launch a Pride Initiative

Has your organisation been working on an inclusive policy, creating a working pride group, or another inclusive program? IDAHOBIT could be the perfect time to launch it.

After Work Drinks

If your workplace loves an after-work pub moment or a knock-off drink, why not add rainbows – and a digtital fundraiser!

Event Tips

Not sure how to get your rainbow event off the ground? That's okay. We've pulled together tips from the experts to help you out.

3. Help Us Change the World

Fundraising

Make sure your activity has real-life, lasting impact by fundraising or making a donation in support of a LGBTQIA+ charity or organisation.

No matter which LGBTQIA+ organisation you're supporting on IDAHOBIT, your fundraising makes a huge difference. And it's easier than you might think to make it happen.

Learn more about the ins and outs of fundraising, and the impact you can have.

Create Visible LGBTQIA+ Awareness

Wearing, or displaying, the rainbow flag signals to others that you're someone who'll respect their LGBTQIA+ identity. And it also signals that your workplace is an inclusive one.

We've made it easy to include rainbow visibility and education as part of your IDAHOBIT activity. Grabbing a Pride Pack makes sure the visible inclusion you create during IDAHOBIT continues to make a difference.

Best of all, 100% of net proceeds from your purchase support our work making an impact all year round.

4. Engage in Education

One of the most important ways of fighting discrimination and creating even more LGBTQIA+ allies is through education. There’s a lot to understand about LGBTQIA+ inclusion, and it's okay if you're not sure where to start. It's also okay if your team's level of LGBTQIA+ knowledge differs from person to person. IDAHOBIT is the perfect time to level up your, and your team's, knowledge.

Explore LGBTQIA+ Inclusion

Our work takes place across the lands of Australia’s First People and Traditional Custodians. We acknowledge their continued connection and contribution to land, water and community, and pay our respects to Elders past and present. Sovereignty was never ceded; this always was, always will be, Aboriginal land.
